Welcome to our newsletter!
JUNE 2025

MULTIR is a collaborative research project funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme, aiming to understand and address the complexities of tumour-host interactions in cancer. By bringing together experts from various disciplines, MULTIR aims to develop innovative strategies for cancer treatment and improve patient outcomes.
We are excited to introduce the first edition of the MULTIR newsletter. This publication aims to keep you informed about the latest developments, events, and insights related to the MULTIR project.
We look forward to creating a vibrant community of collaboration and knowledge sharing!

News & Events
Over the past months, MULTIR partners have been actively involved in a range of project-related activities. To explore more, visit our News and More section on our website.
Here are the highlights:
1st Annual Meeting
and 1st Stakeholder Workshop in Athens

The MULTIR consortium gathered in Athens for its first annual meeting, sharing progress updates and strengthening partnerships. The inaugural stakeholder workshop provided a platform for engaging with external experts, gathering feedback, and aligning research with societal needs.

Joint Event:
MULTIR-ELMUMY-STEPUPIORS
A collaborative event involving MULTIR, ELMUMY, and STEPUPIORS EU funded projects was held to explore synergies and promote interdisciplinary research.

International Symposium on Targeting Homologous Recombination Deficiency in Cancer:
From Bench to Clinic 2025
MULTIR partner HORG organized this annual symposium on 26-27 June at the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens, Greece. The meeting focused on the mechanisms involved in DNA Damage Repair (DDR) and the development of new anticancer therapeutic possibilities. Dr. A. Klinakis chaired the organizing committee and participated with a talk on “Epigenetic regulation of DDR”, while Dr. V. Anastasopoulou’s presentation was entitled: “Is agnostic treatment of HRD/GSS-positive tumors with PARPi a therapeutic step forward?”. This symposium brought together speakers from Greece and beyond, covering a wide range of expertise, including clinical and laboratory medicine, basic science, diagnostics, and the private sector. The event explored fundamental aspects of DNA repair, with a focus on homologous recombination, molecular tools for identifying tumours with DNA repair deficiencies, and the latest clinical advancements in the field.

2024-2025 MULTIR Campaigns
European Cancer Summit
20-21 November 2024

As part of our 2024 initiatives, MULTIR was featured at the 2024 European Cancer Summit, where we presented our research progress and connected with the wider oncology community.
May: Bladder Cancer Awareness
Month Campaign
MULTIR joined the BladderCancerMonth25 campaign led by the World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition to help raise awareness, share resources, and support those affected by bladder cancer. This effort was achieved via multiple posts through our social media accounts.

Understanding (Tumour-Host Interactions) Cluster

What is the U-THI-Cluster?
MULTIR is a proud member of the Understanding (Tumour-Host Interactions) Cluster (U-THI-Cluster). An EU Cancer Mission initiative that brings together 6 research projects, including MULTIR. The cluster promotes collaboration and knowledge sharing to better understand how tumours interact with their environment. By aligning efforts, the projects aim to accelerate discoveries that improve cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Explore our Cluster Video and Brochure to find out more about this joint effort.
Cluster News & Events
Cluster Kick-off Meeting
The U-THI-Cluster held its initial kick-off meeting virtually, bringing together researchers from all the projects to discuss objectives and collaborative strategies.

1st Annual Meeting in Barcelona
The first annual meeting of the U-THI-Cluster took place in Barcelona and online in January 2025, featuring presentations on preliminary findings and fostering discussions on future directions.
