Kick-off Meeting: Horizon Europe Mission on Cancer – Cluster on Understanding Tumour-Host Interactions

On April 5, 2024, the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) hosted the kick-off meeting for the Cluster on Understanding Tumour-Host Interactions, a key initiative under the Horizon Europe Mission on Cancer. MULTIR is proud to be part of this collaborative effort, working alongside leading research projects to deepen our understanding of tumour-host interactions and advance cancer treatment.

About the Cluster

This cluster brings together multidisciplinary teams to explore how tumours interact with their surrounding environment. The goal is to generate new knowledge, tools, and models that will improve cancer diagnosis and therapy, ultimately benefiting patients of all ages.

Projects in the Cluster

MULTIR is collaborating with the following innovative projects:

GLIOMATCH – Developing precision medicine approaches for malignant glioma using spatially resolved radio-multiomics.

HIT-GLIO – Investigating tumour-host interactions in paediatric malignant gliomas to enhance immunotherapy and radiotherapy.

THRIVE – Studying tumour-host interactions in liver cancer affecting both children and adults.

SPACETIME – Exploring spatial cancer evolution and immune microenvironments to better understand tumour dynamics.

ARTURO – Assessing how intratumoral microbiota influence therapy responses using patient-derived tumour-on-chip models.

Cluster Strands of Work

To maximize impact, the projects within this cluster will collaborate across six key strands:

Data Management – Developing a common chapter in each project’s Data Management Plan (DMP) to align processes and share best practices.📌Lead: GLIOMATCH

Communication & Dissemination – Creating a joint video and/or brochure to highlight common goals and research contributions.📌 Lead: MULTIR

Research & Innovation – Establishing an initial common work plan to identify shared scientific challenges, harmonize methodologies, and enhance policy impact.📌 Lead: SPACETIME

Addressing Inequalities – Ensuring research outcomes contribute to legislative, citizen engagement, and market validation discussions.📌 Leads: GLIOMATCH / ARTURO

Citizen Engagement – Developing strategies to involve the public and integrate patient perspectives into research.📌 Lead: HIT-GLIO

Annual Cluster Meetings – Facilitating collaboration, hosting policy discussions, and tracking progress. The first meeting is scheduled for late 2024/early 2025, hosted by THRIVE.📌 Leads: THRIVE (2024), HIT-GLIO (2025)

The kick-off meeting was an important step in promoting collaboration and aligning efforts towards transformative cancer research. MULTIR is excited to contribute to this mission and looks forward to impactful discoveries in the fight against cancer.
